The Allentown Charge, a new U10 girls travel soccer team, played its first game together as a team this past Sunday. They got off to a fast start against their opponent, the Sayreville Huskies, with Jamie Perritt putting a ball in the net after just 90 seconds into the match. The Charge continued to press, and Jillian Frein scored on a Krysta Plummer assist.

After a goal by the Huskies, Plummer played a picture-perfect pass to a wide-open Lena Campbell, who notched a third goal for Allentown before halftime. Allentown’s defense was strong in the nets with Erin Drennan performing well in the goal. Bianca Covitz, Kimberly Wilson, Shannon Abbot, and Hannah Murphy played solid defense, limiting the Huskies scoring opportunities while also keeping the ball in the Huskies side of the field. The halfbacks, led by Erin Primich, Campbell, and Perritt ran all match, helping the Allentown offense, which was led by Jillian Frein, Plummer, and Taylor Frein. The Charge played a terrific game, winning their MOSA opening day match 3-1. Next Sunday they travel to Brick to take on the Lady Bandits.

In the second half, the Ladybugs came out a little stronger and pressured United’s defense, but the defense kept clearing the ball up field. United plays Jersey Coast League games on Saturdays and MOSA games on Sundays.

Allentown came out strong in the second half and quickly scored to take the lead. They kept the pressure on and scored four second-half goals to seal the victory. Anthony Derisi delivered numerous perfectly placed crosses to set up several scoring opportunities. Steven Hensley scored twice and Alec Scarano converted a corner kick for the Attack. Justin Patrylow completed the scoring for the Attack. Allentown’s defense once again denied the opposition, as they thwarted every Beachwood advance.

The defense was led by Evan Byrnes, Ryan Darrell, Cameron Mory, Jake Calvitti and Patrick Dawes. Nathaniel Marquez made his debut in the nets for Allentown and came away with the shutout. Russell Nicholson played his usual strong game anchoring the Attack’s midfield. Patrick McCarthy and Alexander Valentino played well up front for Allentown.
