Resident: Millstone PTO should fund scholarships

I am writing this letter to express my disappointment with the Millstone Township PTO and their decision not to fund scholarships for graduating seniors from Allentown High School for the 2004 school year. I have been a resident of Millstone for over 16 years and had two children go through the Millstone schools, during which time we supported the PTA/PTO in each and every fund-raiser, not to mention time that was volunteered. I find it disgraceful that the PTO is choosing not to support alumni from the Elementary/Middle School in their continuing education. It is very hard for me to fathom that a parent organization with such abounding resources could choose not to fund a scholarship in any amount for our future leaders. It also amazes me that the school and the PTO asks for our continued support of school budgets and passing of referendums, which we do for the good of our children, but yet you could not find to do the same for the graduating class of 2004. This past school budget election was the first time my son was able to cast his vote since turning 18 in March. He voted yes for the school budget because, in his words, "Education of children is one of the most important issues you can vote for in local elections."

I am currently employed by the Upper Freehold Regional Elementary/Middle School, where their PTA continues to support the graduating class of 2004 with very generous scholarships. I only wish that the Millstone PTO could do the same.
