The Allentown Attack U9 travel team moved into sole possession of first place in the Premier division of Jersey Coast this past weekend. The Attack defeated the previously undefeated Howell Infinity 7-0. Allentown started the game at a relentless pace and never looked back. Every member of the Attack was fired up for this important match. Anthony Derisi opened the scoring with two early goals as Allentown seized the early lead. The Attack exhibited unselfish play, featuring deft passing and constant motion. Alec Scarano scored two goals to increase the Attack’s lead. Justin Patrylow added two more goals as he dribbled through the Infinity defense on numerous occasions. Evan Byrnes rounded out the scoring for the Attack off a hard shot from his wing position. Allentown’s defense played very well, shutting out the Infinity offense.

The defensive effort was led by Ryan Darrell, Jake Calvitti, Cameron Mory, Nicholas Miles and Evan Byrnes. Patrick McCarthy split the time in the nets with Anthony Derisi to preserve the shutout. Patrick Dawes and Alexander Valentino played very well up front for the Attack. Russell Nicholson and Steven Hensley controlled the middle of the field for Allentown throughout the match. Both Hensley and Nicholson continually found the open man and each had several assists. Allentown will play the Infinity again this week in their quest to clinch first place in the division.

The Allentown United Red Storm U13 travel team played Hopewell United in a home match this past weekend. The Red Storm started off very strong as they took an early 2-0 lead. Josh Howell and Chris Wittholt each scored as Allentown moved the ball very effectively early on. Hopewell came back and scored to narrow the lead to 2-1. The Red Storm quickly responded with several goals to once again widen the gap. Kevin Bux and Danny Bailey scored for the Red Storm. Connor Darrell held fast in the goal for Allentown, as Hopewell was repeatedly thwarted offensively. The game was very fast paced from start to finish, as Allentown added a goal by Matt Frein, and Josh Howell scored his second goal of the match. Allentown juggled their line-up and Hopewell came roaring back to make the game close as they scored several times in the final minutes. The final score was 6-5 as Allentown held on to win the match. The Red Storm will play the Howell Sports Academy in a key match-up in their next game this weekend.

UFA 40 FC were at home this past Sunday morning to play a team from Holmdel, who eventually arrived at the fields several minutes late. The spring fair in Allentown causing them to negotiate their way around the closed off Main Street section of town. UFA applied the pressure from the kick off and went ahead with an early goal from Jerry Manna. Ten minutes later, Dan Caruso made it two. Holmdel continued to fight back, and at the 30-minute mark were given a penalty kick which they capitalized on by scoring from the spot. The second half resumed with UFA getting four more goals, with Holmdel pulling one back. Final score was UFA 6, Holmdel 2. Next week UFA 40 is away to East Brunswick.
