Reader found U.F. mayor’s letter to be confusing

Is it me or did anyone else who read last week’s Examiner column titled "Upper Freehold mayor explains his position on bypass" become more confused by what was written? Mayor John Mele’s guest column in the Examiner last week has taken the term "wishy washy" to a new level.

On the one hand, Mayor Mele favors construction of the westerly bypass because he was involved in the planning process and it was "…accepted and approved years ago." On the other, he writes that "things change … new issues come to light … and making a decision on this project needs to be based on a change in the facts ..." So which is it?

If anyone now has a better understanding of where Mayor Mele stands on this issue, could someone please tell me?

The mayor’s reference to past and present residents is also curious. Let’s make sure that Mayor Mele remembers that it is the present, not past residents that will be voting in this year’s election.
