Advice for parents on how to talk to your teen
Millstone Township Community Education is offering the following programs:

"Communicating with Your Preteen and Teenager," a two-part class, will be offered Nov. 4 and 11, 7-9:30 p.m., at the Middle School in room 166. Using conflict resolution skills and discipline techniques that promote mutual understanding and respect, parents will maximize their parenting as they help their child transition from child to adult. Lillian Montablano of PCM Associates will be the instructor; the fee is $65.

"Cornucopia" will offer instruction in creating a finished arrangement consisting of herbs, pods and dried flowers. The workshop will be held Nov. 13, 7-9:30 p.m., in the Elementary School’s art room; the fee is $34 and includes $21.20 for supplies.

Elks Auxiliary raises funds for local family

The Millstone Elks Ladies Auxiliary hosted its annual murder-mystery dinner theater Oct. 4, and this year’s event had a little something extra.

The Handicapped Children’s Committee, along with Elks Auxiliary members Denise Glory, Leah Tye and Dena Kaiser, created a "playbill" ad book for the dinner theater. The ad book was used as a fund-raiser for the Nekrasz family.

Chris and Denise Nekrasz have an infant son, Andrew, who has Jacobsen’s syndrome. This disease is a rare chromosome disorder that causes cortical blindness, heart defects and mental retardation. The Nekrasz family’s medical plan does not cover all of the specialists Andrew visits regularly, so the fund-raiser was used to help offset some of the medical expenses. During a break in the final act of the show, HCC chairman Chuck Semanchick presented the Nekrasz family with a check for $10,000, which was the total proceeds of the ad book.

New Egypt firehouse

to host benefit dinner

The New Egypt Volunteer Fire Company will host a fried oyster and chicken salad dinner Nov. 2, beginning at noon, at the firehouse, Main Street, New Egypt.

Tickets, which will be sold at the door, are $17 for adults, $8 for ages 5-12, and free for children under 5 years of age. Take-out orders will be $18, and local deliveries will be $19; call (609) 758-2350. Proceeds will benefit the fire company.
