Boy Scout Troop 624 holds Court of Honor
Boy Scout Troop 624 of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, Allentown, held its summer Court of Honor Aug. 14.
The troop had just returned from a week at Kittatinny Scout Reservation, where the boys went to summer camp. The troop earned all of the summer camp awards, including Leader Service, Director’s Discretion, Ecology Project, Troop Swim, Campsite Inspection, and Field Sports. This was the second consecutive year that the troop earned all the awards provided by the council.
The troop leaders were committee member Linda Frank, who was in charge for the week; committee members Rich DiRocco, Beeg Gardineer and Ron Richmond; and Scout leaders Romel Flores and Phil Pagliaro.
The following Scouts were given awards for advancement and merit badges earned: Chris Frank, Life rank, and merit badges Citizenship in the World, Leatherwork, Communications, Soil and Water, Environmental Science, Forestry and Shotgun; Tom Erni, First Class rank, Shot Gun, Archery, Space Exploration, Leatherwork and Basketry merit badges; Tim Richmond, Basketry, Leatherwork, Archery, Space Exploration and Shot Gun merit badges; Buddy Gardineer, Archery, Space Exploration, Leatherwork and Basketry merit badges; Butch Truesdale, First Class rank, and Basketry, Leatherwork and Space Exploration merit badges; Jason Wolf, Tenderfoot rank, and Space Exploration, Leatherwork and Basketry merit badges; Danny DiRocco, Archery, Indian Lore, Leatherwork, Basketry, Shot Gun and Space Exploration merit badges; and Kyle Seip, Shot Gun merit badge.
Following their week at summer camp, the troop spent a weekend rafting and camping at a campground in Pennsylvania and just returned from a campout at Gettysburg, Pa., where they toured the park and did some sightseeing on a bus. A campout at Hawk Mountain to see migrating hawks and eagles is planned for November, and the troop will attend the Council Fall Camporee at Lakehurst Naval Base Oct. 3-5.
The troop meets every Thursday at 7 p.m. in the church hall. Any boy age 101/2 or in the fifth grade who wishes to join may visit any meeting with his parent or guardian, or call Scoutmaster Phil Pagliaro at (609) 448-2938 for information.
