Word on the street

“I definitely go to church more often, like every Sunday. Also, once a month we have a family outing to the movies or out to dinner.” — Melissa Balas Howell“I definitely go to church more often, like every Sunday. “Once a month since the attacks, my fraternity brothers and I go to the city to help with the relief efforts. We are with the black bucket brigade, which is responsible for recovering the body parts.” — Michael King Tinton Falls“Once a month since the attacks, my fraternity brothers and I go to the city to help with the relief efforts. The lifestyle is so different. Now we shop together, and my husband barbecues for me, which he’d never done before. I was in Macy’s when I found out what happened. Everyone was crying. Even though I live in Jersey, I will always be a New Yorker.” — Catherine DelPrete JacksonMy husband and I do more things together. We moved here from the city last year. “I work in Newark, and my office window faced the twin towers, so I got to watch it all happen. Right after the attacks we were constantly evacuated because of bomb threats. Now we have new ID cards and a metal detector in order to get into my building. I used to be a workaholic. Now I work less and have more family time.” — Diane Kerlet Jackson“I work in Newark, and my office window faced the twin towers, so I got to watch it all happen. We were always a religious family who spent quality time together, so we still rely on that.” — Robin Alfonso Manalapan“I feel more anxiety over not being with my children all of the time. … They keep asking me questions about things I don’t even want to talk with them about, but I have to. “I miss the World Trade Center, particularly since I am an architect. I know several people who, thank God, got out that day. Now when I’m in New York City, I’m much more cautious. I say a prayer every time I go into New York, especially [in] the tunnel.” — Norman Becker Manalapan“I miss the World Trade Center, particularly since I am an architect. I look after my friends more — I’m protective of them. At school we have a monument dedicated to 9/11, and we’re writing stories and poems, sharing our feelings.” — Michael Peterson Manalapan“When it all happened, I was in school in Vermont. “I’m a Lakewood police officer, so I’m definitely more cautious at work. I look out for suspicious packages. I also carry my weapon while I’m off duty for protection. As for my family, I read the paper more to pass the information along to my family.” — Dan Tworkoski Lakewood“I’m a Lakewood police officer, so I’m definitely more cautious at work.
