Millstone Township Recreation is still accepting registrations for its men’s basketball league. The cost is $20. The program is held at the Millstone Middle School on Mondays from 7:30-10 p.m., and on Thursdays at the Roosevelt School from 6:15-7:30 p.m. Registration forms can be filled out at the gym, or call the recreation office and have it mailed.

Millstone Recreation’s ski trip is scheduled for this Saturday at Camelback Ski Lodge in Pennsylvania. The bus will depart from the elementary school at 7 a.m. and return by 7 p.m. Children ages 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Families are encouraged to send in their nonrefundable payment of $15 per person as soon as possible to reserve a seat on the bus. Ski rental packages will be made available at the lodge.

Kaitlyn Meirs, 12, of Cream Ridge won a number of medals at the Holiday Classic swim meet held Dec. 15-17 at Rutgers University, New Brunswick. She finished first in the 50-yard freestyle, beating 187 other 11- and 12-year-olds from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts with a time of 25.83; fourth in the 100 free (56.50); seventh in the 100 back (1:06.61) and 100 IM (1:06.18); and eighth in the 200 free (2:04.98). Meirs qualified to participate in the YMCA National Long Course Swim Championships to be held in August 2001. This is an elite meet where YMCA swim teams from all over the country compete for top honors. Swimmers must be at least 12 years old to participate and there are no age divisions. Meirs swims for the Hamilton Area YMCA and has represented it at other top swim meets such as the Junior Olympics. As a 10-year-old she was a five-time, top 16 qualifier and was ranked fourth in the nation in the 50 free. She has also swum for the New Jersey All-Star Zone Team, competing with top swimmers from the Northeast in the U.S. Swim program in which the Hamilton Y also participates.

Tryouts for the Manalapan Baseball AAU 15-16-year-old team will be held at the Play Ball Complex in Marlboro on Saturday from 8:30-10 a.m. Call (732) 303-9129, (732) 972-1696 or (732) 972-8703 to register for the tryout or for additional information.

Men’s Softball League A Division champions are looking for a few good players, including a pitcher, for the 2001 season. It’s a Modified fastpitch league that plays games on Sunday mornings in the Marlboro area. Call Bill Mueller at (732) 462-2632 for additional information.

The Monmouth County Park System will host the Women’s Manasquan Evening Cocoa Crusade Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Manasquan Reservoir Visitor Center, Windeler Road. Howell. The crusade is a five-mile ramble around the Manasquan Reservoir with a mug of cocoa and a snack waiting at the finish. Hiking boots are suggested. Cost is $11.50 and preregistration is required.
