Senior wins citizenship award ALLENTOWN — Melissa Dunne-Porter, a senior at Allentown High School, has been named as the school’s Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizen. She is now eligible to enter the DAR Good Citizens Scholarship Contest, which will award more than $3,000 in scholarships to students entering college in the fall of 2001. According to a press release from the high school, Melissa’s selection was based on the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. "I am proud that Melissa was selected as our DAR Good Citizen," said Anna Kowalczyk, Melissa’s guidance counselor. "Her leadership and school involvement during her four years at Allentown has made her a role model to all students." Melissa has served as student council president during her junior and senior years. She has been involved with the varsity girls cross country team, track and field, National Honor Society and the Freshman Orientation Program. She has been a member of the President’s Council, Natural Helpers, Middle States Committee, Vice Principal Selection Committee, Spanish Honor Society and the Travel Club. Melissa attended the Presidential Classroom Scholars Program in Washington, D.C., during her junior year. The DAR Good Citizens Program and Scholarship Contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The opportunity to participate in the DAR Good Citizens Program and Scholarship Contest is extended by the Monmouth Courthouse Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. |
