      Scotty Cannon’s Pro

Mod record at Raceway Park of 6.2 seconds and 225.67 mph, set in August 1998, is one of the longest standing records at the Old Bridge drag strip. Cannon’s record could be in jeopardy on Sunday at the 11th annual All-Star Pro Mod Shootout. Cannon won’t be around to defend his mark because he has moved up to the National Hot Rod Association Funny Car ranks, but two of his biggest challengers, Fred Hahn and Troy Critchley, are expected to be at Raceway Park, having come close to Cannon’s marks. Critchley turned in a sizzling 6.280, 222.29 mph run this winter in Florida. Hahn cranked out a 6.220, 222.73 at Raceway Park last year during the All-Star Pro Mod Shootout and is back to give the record a go again. Others in the field include Mike Ashley, Mike Castellana and Tommy Gray. Added to Sunday’s program will be a match race between two Jet Funny Cars. Rich Hanna will bring his five-second, 280 mph First Strike to the line against Ernie Bouge and his all-new ’57 Chevy replica. Gates will open at 9 a.m. with time trials until 2 p.m. followed immediately by the All-Star Pro Mod Shootout eliminations. Details: (732) 446-7800.
